Amanda's Take - Season 7 - Episodes 5 & 6
Hello BPR LAND!
You, who are sitting in front of your computers and reading this every time I write in, THANK YOU.
I am deeply thankful for all of your support and encouragement. Even if you've never left a comment, just by reading my thoughts you have enriched my life! I only hope that my little insights on the models and the fashion world can enhance yours, even for just a passing moment.
I have had a whirlwind February in New York City! I've been incredibly fortunate to not only work with extremely talented fashion designers, photographers, stylists and hair and makeup artists, but also to have walked in my fifth Project Runway Finale! As everyone who has taken a look at the photos from the collections knows, I was one of Jesse's girls!

BPR at Fashion Week

It's a bittersweet farewell to Bryant Park as Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week sets up shop for the last time at the vaunted venue. Beginning this fall, the tents will be raised at Lincoln Center and it just won't seem the same, will it? Sadly, all the talk around fashion week today centers on the tragic passing of Alexander McQueen.
Of course, Team BPR is here for tomorrow's taping of the Project Runway Season 7 finale. The steps and sidewalks are covered with ice and slush, posing a challenge for the models to simply make their way into the tents. And tomorrow madness will ensue as we will see up to 11 Season 7 designers show. BPR will be bringing you reports and photos from the scene over the next week.
We'll also be following fashion week shows from PR alumni including Christian Siriano and Irina Shabayeva. It should be an eventful week, so stay tuned!

More Christian Siriano at Fashion Week
BPR was there in the crowd and the reaction to the show was spectacular. Don't miss New York Magazine's take via The Fug Girls because they can ID celebs way better than Laura K. and myself (me: "Who is that next to Kelly Rowland?" Laura K.: "..."). Yes, there was a partial standing ovation, something that usually doesn't happen because fashionistas sometimes suffer from terminal ennui.
Read about the killer shoes Christian designed and debuted here.
USA Today takes us backstage right before the show. Newsday called his collection as "dramatic as ever." The Associated Press tells us that the garments were inspired by European travel and tells us what Nina Garcia thought of the collection.
What did we think? We were simply blown away. He has been called a genius and a prodigy and his clothing are evidence that those pronouncements are true.

From the Mailbox
Meanwhile, we have mailbox news from two BPR favorites. The San Francisco Bay Times features Living Positive Means Positive Living for Jack Mackenroth. And Nick Verreos takes us Behind the Dress as he helped select the gown to be worn by the on-stage escorts at the Academy Awards. Read more about his experience on his blog here.
Finally, look forward to our coverage tomorrow morning directly from the tents at Fashion Week as we attend the Season 6 Project Runway show at Bryant Park. BPR will take you there! And of course we will post the photos of the collections as they become available; we will link to images of the garments on our second page for all of you non-spoiler purists.

Malan Breton Fall 2009

BPR's gal on the scene Nancy T. took time out from her BABDC duties to attend Malan Breton's Fall 2009 show yesterday evening:
Friday the 13th was not an unlucky day for Malan Breton. He showed his Fall 2009 collection to a throng of admirers in a packed art gallery. It was February 13, and Eli Klein Fine Art hosted the show, which benefitted the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge.
The clothes and models were stunning in a way more befitting an art gallery than a runway. The clean lines stark color palette (mostly black, white, and red) set off some incredible details including a feather-covered jacket and a skirt embroidered with Chinese coins, and pearls. The fabrics were classic Breton – chiffons, jacquards, tulle, taffeta, and organzas. All in all, the collection seemed more formal than much of Malan’s earlier work, successfully balancing the fine line between luxe and ostentation.

Click here for more of Nancy's report and photos including the amazing Amanda Fields (with a peek of Diana Eng for good measure) and a brief video of Malan talking about his inspiration for the collection.

A Glimmer of Hope for Season Six
As of this minute the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week site has not yet posted the schedule, and yet we have persistent rumors that "Project Runway" will be there.
Last night at the YMA Fashion Scholarship Event, Tim Gunn told The Cut that the show would go on. Stay tuned....
Edited to add: Sorry for any confusion - here is the text of "The Cut" article:
Not much has happened with the Project Runway lawsuits lately. We still don't know which network the show will wind up on or when the sixth season, which was shot in L.A., will make airwaves. But the production team is plowing ahead as scheduled. Tim Gunn told us at the Geoffrey Beene YMA Fashion Scholarship Dinner at the Marriot Marquis last night that Runway is scheduled to film at Fashion Week on Friday, February 20. "I'm making my home visits to the finalists starting on Sunday," Gunn added. "It's an incredible season. It really is. And I just want people to see it. And I want the designers on the show to get the exposure." Us too.
