The Tim Gunn Show?
Judging from your comments it is hard to imagine Project Runway without Tim Gunn. But perhaps it would be fun to try to imagine a NEW show for Tim! What network would it be on? What regular features would be included? What guests would Tim interview? Where would he go? What would he do? The BPR Team has all sorts of ideas - but we'll let you go first!
From The Mailbox
New Yorkers, mark your calendars for February 15, 2007:
Tim Gunn has teamed up with the East End's popular sculptor/designer Jonathan Adler to co-chair Bailey House's annual Have a Heart Auction and Party at the Puck Building in Soho. Click here for more details. Thanks Deb.
Here is a link to a slideshow of the latest from "Project Designer." The artists were challenged to design a swimsuit for the classic Vargas Pin-Up Girl, but to make it modern. Each designer was given a specific month. Thanks Chris.
Last, here is a great idea - the Tim Gunn Office Assistant!
Advice From Tim Gunn in Oprah Magazine
We all know that when confronted with an obnoxious and loud cell phone user, we should smile and say, nicely, "Could you keep it down?" But what if they are rude back?
Tim Gunn: I've heard this exchange with enough frequency to know that it almost always results in a hostile mess of harsh words. Consequently, I opt for the high road as often as possible: I look for a new seat, I cross the street, I bite my lip, but I don't engage unless there is no other possible option."
What do you do if a friend tells you she’s going to marry the creep she’s been dating?
Tim Gunn: If she is your friend, does she not already know that you think her fiancĂ© is a creep?”
What do you do when somebody you are close to gives you a really ugly present –and they visit often?
Tim Gunn: If it’s an item of clothing, you could say: ‘I loved the sweater that you gave me, but when I tried it on, it didn’t look great on me. I took it back to the store to exchange it for another size/color, but they didn’t have any more, so I purchased this, and I love it just as much. So thank you again!’”
What do you do if a friend borrows books/clothes/DVDs and forgets to return them?
Tim Gunn: "Say to your friend, 'I was looking for my DVD of Funny Face last night, and I remembered that you borrowed it.' Or 'Have you finished reading The Devil Wears Prada yet?'"
Tim Gunn on regifting: "A situation that still makes me cringe: A colleague at Parsons was leaving to accept a position at another institution in another city. I had forgotten about her farewell party. I scrambled though the stuff in my office searching for an unopened box, the contents of which would be appropriate to re-gift it. (Why I have lots of unopened gifts is another story…) VoilĂ ! I found a sterling silver Tiffany pen that had been presented to me after judging a city-wide design competition. I relished her gush at the sight of the signature blue box and white ribbon. She opened it, and looked at me tearfully and said, 'You even had it engraved.' Oh, no. 'Best wishes from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.' Re-gifting can be very dangerous, indeed.
Thanks Lea.

An Update on Angela
Dear Scarlett,
Wow- what a posh, fantastic week and a half!
I was lucky enough to join tim on his tour of Macy's, previewing INC's spring 2007 line. We met hundreds of fans in each location- Tim invited me to do the Q&A with him before each fashion show, which was great fun. After the fashion show, we signed autographs and took photos with 75 lucky winners in each location. Macy's did a bang-up job of hosting Tim and me; we stayed in the W hotel and had limo service everywhere. Tim was, as always, incredibly debonaire and gracious to his adoring fans. Although all the pampering was a complete and total blast, quality time with Tim was the best part!
take care!

Season 4 Sans The Gunn?
Here are the salient pieces from Mo's interview:
Ever the modest one, he would only say he "makes no assumptions," but he would come back "in a heartbeat" if asked.
If asked? But wait, there's more:
"Parsons pays my bills," said Gunn, who is chair of the school's fashion department. If the show wanted to start up before then, "Good luck to you," was Gunn's reaction. He also noted that the school just wouldn't have room for "Runway" filming until the academic year was over.
Clearly, negotiations for Season 4 are going hot and heavy as we speak. Sponsors are being signed, contracts are being negotiated, Andy Cohen's catering preferences are being tended to, among other details. The above statement however tells us that there is some effort on behalf of Weinstein/NBCUniversal/Bravo to roll out S4 before next summer. But it can't be filmed at Parson's until May at the earliest with a likely July 2007 premiere.
Unless they choose to go elsewhere. Unless they choose to leave Tim behind. Dare they?

Tim Gunn: Quality, Taste and Style
Tim discusses every aspect of creating and maintaining your personal style, all in the witty and reassuring voice that millions of fans adore. Hot topics include how to dress for everyday occasions, how to shop (from designer to chain stores to vintage), how to mix your best “fashion cocktail,” how to buy clothes for a man, how to be your own best fashion designer, and much more. Whether you’re a seasoned fashionista or a style neophyte, Tim can show you how to “make it work!”.
According to Amazon, the anticipated release date is sometime in May: this will be mandatory reading for Runway fans. If you order using the link from BPR a portion of the sale will go to benefit the BPR Parsons Scholarship fund. Will a book tour be far behind? We are giddy at the thought.

A Holiday Note From Malan Breton
Dearest Scarlett,
How are you? I wanted to share with you the windows that I have designed for the holidays for my store. I designed two pieces, one theatrical, the other Couture, both to compliment my essence. The word Joy on the window is a symbol of the Joys of this year and my happiness meeting all of you; it is created in real and fake pearls. I hope you like it.

Chelsea C Reports from Kansas City
Hi - my sister Kerri and I made it to Macy's in Kansas City on Saturday, 11/18/06 to see Tim Gunn. It was a great day... and we took tons of pics. I just wanted to thank you - if not for this site we would have never known they were coming to our area. My sister was able to get us reservations weeks ago and we had a fabulous day.
So we showed up early at Macy's and we saw a bunch of Season 3 designs on display - Uli's dog outfit was discussed in the line as we waited - but it wasn't addressed by Tim himself... so we just heard about the fact that it had been taken from some other ladies waiting in line to check in.
The runway was all set up:

Tim Gunn is now mentioned in the celebrity pages - right along with Britney Spears! Click here to discover where Tim dined while he was in Chicago.
Here is a fellow blogger's report from the Windy City.
BPR regular Ms. Place reports that Tim's podcasts are in regular rotation on her ipod. I need an ipod...
This article is about "Model Entrepreneur" Heidi Klum. Here is a quote:
"("Runway") has really caught on with people," says Klum. "That's helped me as a personality, so I'm very happy about that."
The series have generated attractive numbers. Last season's Bravo "Runway" finale averaged a 4.6 rating with 5.4 million viewers tuning in -- the net's highest rated telecast ever. Although Klum says she would "of course" return for a fourth season, plans are, at present, "unannounced," according to Bravo prexy Lauren Zalaznick.
Be sure to visit Andrae Blogzalo for the latest...a contest. I don't want to give it away. Check it out!
Thanks Deb and Val for these great links.
Here is one more from Randall. Ever wonder what is costs to produce an episode of Project Runway? Here is a suggestion:
But Bravo’s costs are well under that, in the estimate of Rod Buston, associate professor of mass communications at the University of Denver. By using non-union production crews, digital-video production technology and lots of product placements to subsidize creation of a show, he estimates that it costs Bravo only $30,000 to $40,000 to shoot and edit each hour-long reality program. Spread over multiple airings, he said, that comes down to $5,000 or $10,000 each.
In contrast, NBC spends like this:
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which hasn’t generated West Wing-like ratings, costs upwards of $2.5 million an episode.
Please read the entire article. It's fascinating.

Premature Reports of a Birth
We've received several reports that Laura Bennett has had her baby based upon a story on another blog. As of this writing, it has not happened. What HAS happened is the fabulous baby shower that you can read about at Project Rungay. Please know that we will only post the virtual birth announcement after the event has been confirmed.
In the meantime, I prepared this new slideshow of Laura's OFW collection without the watermarks and with the song she used, 'Laura's Zest;' this is a small tribute to the fabulous Ms. Bennett who could have her baby boy at any time.

Lulu's Report From Chicago
Oh, the anticipation all afternoon. I arrive home from teaching around 1, and kill time until 4:30, when my husband, Doug, and I had planned to hop on the el (Chicago’s mass transit) to head to Macy’s. We’re supposed to meet our friend Krueger, who happens to work in the sports bar/restaurant in the basement of Macy’s, at 5, to be sure we get good seats. Doug’s running late getting back from errands, and I’m silently fuming. I don’t want to miss out on any opportunity. We end up arriving around 5:30, but no worries, the line is short and plenty of good seats left!

I write to thank you and all of the BPR loyalists who voted for me to be included in People's "sexiest men" issue. I know that there is NO WAY that I would be there without BPR's support. I am deeply touched by the continually unbridled rallying for me. I just want you to know that it is returned in kind at every possible opportunity.
I LOVE BPR!!!

Austin Scarlett Takes on the Brides of Baltimore!
Another champion field reporter was on the job last night in Baltimore! Thanks Amber for this fabulous interview with Austin Scarlett.
BPR <3 Austin AND Amber!
What a fantastic evening we had! My best friend, Maria, and I suited up in our best "mommy" duds and headed to our favorite bridal boutique. What, may you ask, are two mothers of (with five children between them) doing in a bridal shop? Why, meeting the delightful and fantastic Austin Scarlett, of course!
We arrived at Betsy Robinson's Bridal in Baltimore, MD and were greeted warmly by her staff and offered pink champagne. Austin and Ms. Robinson had stepped out for a moment so while we waited, we chatted with a model who was wearing this design of Austin's for the Kenneth Pool line for Amsale. As I've heard others say, photographs of fashion can simply do no justice. The detail and embellishing on this dress was so amazing and intricate. Almost made me want to be a bride again...Click here to continue.
The BPR's Choice Award
We have been promising to post ALL of the Halloween entries and here they are! Click here for the slideshow of all 44 entries. Thanks Phaolo for your excellent work preparing the images!
Just to make things fun we are going to hold a little BPR's Choice Award Poll. After some discussion we decided that the best way to do this is to include all of the entries that received at least one vote from our panel of judges. There are a total of 12 entries. We would have loved to have had a poll with all 44 entries but Pollhost only allows twenty and although we considered other options - we think this will work.
You can only vote for one entry, but you can vote once a day - just like the real People's Choice Awards.
Does this sound fair? The winner will receive a Season One DVD. There is a lot of Season One Fun going on at Project Rungay and we want to be part of it!
Vote below:
The poll will close on Wednesday November 22 at noon eastern time.
Update: The poll has closed. Click here to see the results.

From Daniel Franco - a video of his Spring Collection:
From David Paul - this news about Nick Verreos:
Hi Laura,
Yes I accompanied Nick to Kansas and we are already back in LA today! It was a great event. They really did a great job. They do not offer a Fashion Major, but several students involved in textile design, art and costume design filled out the talented 8 designers.
It was a very creative show that more schools should copy! They even had the judges critique the entries which was fun, although made things run quite long!
Nick signed autographs and posed for photos for hundred upon hundreds of excited students. I don't know how he does it sometimes!
Nick will be the backstage correspondent for The Victoria's Secret Show tomorrow. He is doing it for Heidi Klum's Production company, similar to the Halloween footage. I'll let you know more on that as it becomes available.
Best,
David
Then from Bradley Baumkirchner this adorable photo with designer Benjamin Cho at a PaperMag event in Los Angeles. Do we love the beard? Honestly I almost forgot that he shaved it for the Reunion!
Finally remember that Chloe Dao's Urbanites event is tomorrow night in Houston. We need a Field Reporter and we can almost promise that Chloe will treat you like royalty! Please write to Team BPR if you are available - thanks!
Daniel Franco's Birthday Party
Here at BPR Central we have an irrational fondness for Daniel Franco. So imagine my delight when I received an invitation to his birthday party! Of course since I live in Arizona I asked if I could send a friend instead. He said "Send two!" So we enlisted veteran LA Field Reporter Christine! Here is her report:
First of all, let me pass on a huge thank you to both Laura K who invited my husband and I to fill her shoes at Daniel’s party, as well as a giant thank you to the incredibly gracious Daniel Franco, who welcomed us into his home like the rest of his other friends.
This clip needs no introduction...And yes, we do have Daniel's permission.

BPR Halloween Contest: 4th Place
Nick Verreos: I chose this one because the dress was incredibly accurate and looked even better made than the original! The person wearing it even looked like Marilinda, and she had the boots as well. Major points for execution as well as styling--down to the hair loosely falling around the face.
Check out more of Risa's Halloween photos here. Risa and friends were definitely in the Halloween spirit!
Next up is Tobias from the Saint Louis Art Museum with his spot-on Jeffrey:
Katy Gerdes: This Jeffrey won me with the pincushion. Jeffrey seemed so proud of that pincushion! And again it's the details… the awesome rendition of the tattoo and even an Eiffel tower necklace!
Nick: The best of the Jeffrey costumes. The photo with his hand over his mouth is my favorite. The tattoos are great and I especially love the voodoo doll on his wrist. He styled himself very accurately. Next to Jeffrey , this guy would be his twin!
There are more great ones to see. Come back tomorrow to see a slideshow with all of the costumes! And, as a special treat, you will be given the opportunity to vote in a readers' poll for the twelve (out of 44) entries that received at least a single vote from our judges.

A Note From Robert Best
Dear BPR,
While on the show, Laura noticed the trench I had at a photo shoot. She loved it. I told her she could wear it for the run of the show. As it turned out, it looked so great on her - I gave it to her. I can think of no one I'd rather see in my design, than Laura (other than Barbie of course). It is, however the only coat of its kind - except for its miniature counterpart. Here is a sketch of the original and a closeup of the Barbie version.
Robert Best
A Note From Laura Bennett
Hi Laura , no news yet. Please tell Scarlett I am sorry she missed the shower last night, family first- I completely understand.
I'm sure this is really boring in light of Tim's sexy standing, but I have a response to the attention over the white coat.
I love trench coats, to me they are right up there with little black dresses and big sunglasses. When I saw Robert Best with this one at a promotional shoot for Project Runway I was immediately enamored. The border of the coat is silk screened figures drawn by Robert. Each figure is more fabulously glamorous than the next. I believe the coat is a one of a kind sample. He kindly allowed me to wear it during the filming of Project Runway 3. Upon his departure when I tried to return it to him he said I could keep it! It is now one of my prized possessions. It is a wonderful reminder of Robert's talent and generosity.
You can see a mini version of Robert's fabulously glamourous trench here.
